Sadly, on Sunday December 4th 2011 the great Hubert Sumlin passed away at the age of 80.
Hubert rose to fame for his fantastic guitar playing in the late Howling Wolf’s band.
Hubert’s masterful and soulful licks influenced every blues guitar player from Jimi to Eric and everyone in between.
Chart toppers like The Rolling Stones, Cream, Led Zeppelin and The Doors all owed a debt to Hubert. He always sounded 40 years ahead of everyone else and recently made the Top 100 Guitarists Of All Time list.
Hubert Sumlin is one of the reasons why I play guitar like I do. Whenever someone picks up a guitar to play some blues, Hubert is in there somewhere.
Rolling Stones Mick Jagger and Keith Richards will be paying for his funeral, as a fitting mark of respect for the great man.
R.I.P. Hubert, we love you!
